Strum Pattern # 2 in 4/4: I call this the Green Day Pattern because they use it in a lot of their songs. You can here it in American Idiot as well as Good riddance to name a couple. It is a common pattern.
It is a 2 bar pattern:

Tips:
- Watch out for the MISSED strum on beat 1 in the second bar.
- Always keep that hand moving!
- Practice tapping out the rhythms alone if your having trouble.
- Say the pattern as you do it for extra help. for example you could say ” down down down up down up miss up down down up down up” or ” 1 2 down up down up miss up 3 and 4 and”. Or even ” 1 2 now you have to MISS a strum green day pattern” The last one may seem goofy to you but I use these with myself and my students all the time and they honestly get the best results! Music is a language and when we associate it to a language we already know it is usually much easier to grasp.
- Need I even mention the next tip? Yes! SLOW DOWN!!! And use a metronome.
