5 lines and 4 spaces is not nearly enough to cover the range of most instruments. Ledger lines are used to extend the range above and below the staff to allow for more notes. Below are all the notes that cover the range of the guitar.
* When there are too many notes with 4 ledger lines or more they become hard to read. In this case the symbol 8va is used to indicate that the note or notes are played an octave higher than written. Vice versa 8vb is used for notes to be played an octave lower than written.
