Hi Jeff,
Thanks for a great lesson last night! I am starting the second melody exercise in the golf on fences. Should I assume that each downbeat is a down pick stroke and each “and” is an up pick stroke when playing the eighth notes? Or should I just alternate down and up on all the eighth notes?
Thx-Keith
Yes, assume that the down beats are down strokes and the “and’s” are up strokes. That way you can just keep you hand chugging along like you are strumming 8th notes all the time. This forms a good habit, keeps you in time and puts your hand in the right place for what ever combination of rhythms you encounter in that context. The other way you mention is called efficiency picking because there is no wasted stokes, but is important to first learn alternate picking before you do that because it reflects the rhythm better and is much more useful for the majority of stuff we play.
Hi Jeff,
I have been taking “All of Me” and playing along with the melody you recorded for me. I am changing up chord voicings to practice coming at chords from different ways. It is making a big difference. Is there a different way to grab the Dm7? Seems to high on the neck?
Hi Jeff,
Unless I am missing something, I never received the rhythm exercise? Also, for some reason, I can’t find the real books? We can talk at my next lesson. Thx-Keith
