6/8 is a little more tricky because, although there are technically 6 beats in a measure, 6/8 is really felt in 2 stronger beats divided in to 3. The rest being the weaker beats.
Heres a basic example of some notation in 6/8:
- the 1st measure below shows the 2 strong beats in 6/8.
- Measure shows how 2 strong beats divide into three 8th notes each. Beamed according to the beat they belong to as all time signatures do.
- Last measure shows how 16th notes are also beamed according to the beat they are part of.
- 6/8 can be counted 2 different ways as seen below.
