4/4 is also known as Common time because it is the most come time signature used in Western music. It accounts for probably 75% of the music we hear. It’s notated by the letter C instead of the numbers 4/4.
Heres an example of how music is written in 4/4 or Common time:
- 8th notes with in beats 1 and 2 are beamed together as well as beats 3 and 4. It is important for there to be a separation that shows the beginning of beat 3. It is easier on the eye.
- 16th notes are beamed according to the beat they belong to.
Examples of music in 4/4:
- Rudolf the Red Nosed Reindeer.
- Au Lang Syne.
- America the Beautiful.
