Treble Clef
The Treble Clef is found at the beginning of each line of music. Its purpose is to tell the reader what notes the lines and spaces on the staff represent. See diagram below. Guitar reads music with a treble clef but not all instruments use the same clef. There are a few others including Bass Clef and moveable C Clef.
Helpful tips:
- The spaces spell the word “FACE” from bottom to top.
- A good mnuemonic device for the lines is Every Good Boy Does Fine.
- When figuring out a note you can also the phrase ” if it’s on a space use FACE, if it’s on a line use “every good boy does fine”.
- The treble clef is also known as the G Clef because of the x it creates when it crosses the G line.
